It’s wet under my GORE-TEX®—a leak or false alarm?
GORE-TEX® is one of the best materials for tactical gear. That’s because basically nothing else can help keep you as dry and comfortable in severe wet and windy weather. But still, there are times when you’ll feel as if your GORE-TEX® outerwear might have sprung a leak.
The good news is that, usually, middle- and base-layer wetting turns out to be caused not by water infiltration but instead by a physiological/physical process: you sweating. And, if your activity level is such that you perspire a lot, the amount of sweat you produce could potentially overwhelm the ability of the GORE-TEX® material to wick it all away. Result? Feels like there’s a leak.
