Contract Update!
Soldiers of the Bundeswehr equipped with the “Infantryman of the Future – Enhanced System VJTF +” soldier system apparently will not receive the standard main combat sight currently being introduced across the board – the ELCAN Specter DR 1-4x in combination with the ACRO P-2 red dot sight from Aimpoint – but instead an optics package from Hensoldt.

According to reports, the soldiers equipped with the IdZ-ES VJTF+ will be issued the G95KA1 (short variant of the new Bundeswehr assault rifle). The main combat sight is the ZF4 MKO with a reticle designed for the G95KA1 in combination with an ACRO P-2 from Aimpoint, both in the same color as the assault rifle – “Flat Dark Earth.” The optics package is not unfamiliar to the Bundeswehr, as it is also used on the A3 variant of the MG4, which is currently undergoing operational testing. According to well-informed sources, MG5s delivered from 2027 onward are also expected to be equipped with this optics package, with the aim of minimizing the variety of optics and the associated training effort for small arms as much as possible.

According to earlier statements by Hensoldt, the ZF4 MKO/ACRO-P-2 sight is an assault rifle optic optimized for use with the HK416 assault rifle family. Its width has been designed in such a way that no components protrude beyond the weapon housing. In addition, the mount has been designed so that the rear sight of the HK iron sight system can be mounted flush on the rear part of the mount.
In the event of an optics failure in combat, the shooter would therefore have an iron sight available – mounted in the optimal position for aiming.
