Eighty years ago, on December 7, 1941, the American naval base of Pearl Harbor located on the island of Oahu, was bombed by surprise by 183 Japanese planes. The United States, which had remained distant, officially plunged into the Second World War.
American losses amounted to 2355 military killed and 1143 injured, 68 civilians dead and 35 injured, 3 vesels destroyed and 11 damaged as well as 188 aircrafts destroyed and 128 damaged. The Japanese losses were 29 aircraft destroyed and 64 dead.
