New Canadian Modular Assault Rifle

Army has two variants in development for the next modular assault rifle

When the federal government rolled out its June 2017 defence policy paper, it was packaged as “a long-term vision” for how Canada’s military could respond to a rapidly changing world. It was an ambitious vision built around a promise to spend billions more on defence over the ensuing two decades.

Among other things, it stated that “the Department of National Defence remains committed to the significant and strategic long-term investments that will ensure the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) continues to function as an agile, and combat-ready force, capable of making tangible contributions and delivering on its commitments at home and around the world.”

Most NATO countries have “moved on” and Canada is “overdue to bring its capabilities up to speed,” he said. Gendron warned that “our operators who use their assault rifles for dismounted offensive operations or personal protection now risk being overmatched by adversaries using readily available technologies.”

The Army’s solution is the Canadian Modular Assault Rifle (CMAR), which could be adopted to various tactical scenarios by changing components procured through Colt’s subcontractors or other certified manufacturers. The expectation is a weapon it says will “enhance the awareness, lethality and protection of deployed CAF members.”

The CMAR project was presented to an Independent Review Panel for Defence Acquisitions in July 2020. While it acknowledged the Army’s specific needs for its dismounted operators, the panel also suggested that the entire CAF assault rifle fleet requirements be addressed. This led the Army to rethink how it could achieve this within a reasonable funding envelope and without jeopardizing the operational effectiveness of the Army.

Introducing the enhanced Second Generation of PA Magazine Pouch Series

LENGGRIES, GERMANY (12 January 2024) – Lindnerhof-Taktik today introduced the second generation of the PA Magazine Pouch Series. These updated products come with a wide range of enhancements and adjustments to meet current industry standards. Some of the key innovations include a redesigned construction, alpha tabs on all pouches instead of sewn-on pull handles, and the convenience of adjusting or removing the elastic cord strap on the outside of the pouch without disassembling it.

To improve functionality, the back of the pouches now features MX material with laser-cut slots and slim 20mm PALS straps. This not only reduces the weight of the pouches by approximately 5-10%, but also allows easier mounting, especially on reinforced systems like the Curv belts, compared to the previous 25mm strap.

The pouches with an external MOLLE/PALS system for attaching additional pouches (except for PA004 & PA158) have been upgraded with 20mm straps. This change not only reduces weight compared to the previously used 25mm straps, but also creates a more cohesive look when used with modern systems like the LT042/II plate carrier from Lindnerhof.

Additionally, Lindnerhof-Taktik has made some improvements to the color matrix in order to achieve a more attractive appearance. Previously, the 3fb and 5fb flecktarn versions featured single-colored MOLLE/PALS straps, such as stonegrey on the 5fb flecktarn variant. In the second generation of PA Magazine Pouches, the straps have been replaced with camouflage ones that perfectly match the pattern.

The new generation of the PA Magazine Pouch Series offers a variety of models, including magazine pouches and panels for rifles such as the HK417, multi-caliber pouches, as well as magazine pouches for pistols.

Finland Fields Nordic Combat Uniform

The Combat Uniform System M23 is now in use!

The Finns have done it! They finally fielded the new “Nordic Combat Uniform System M23” as the first military out of the cooperation among Denmark, Norway and Sweden with the goal of procuring a combat uniform system with accessories for the troops to be future ready.

The Jaeger Brigade, Lapland Air Command and Lapland Border Guard are the first units to receive it as a replacement for the M05 ensemble. The system is supplied by Norwegian system integrator Oskar Pedersen AS. The system does not include headgear, gloves, footwear, or PPE.

The system components are common across the program’s participants with outer layers printed in national camouflage patterns as seen here with the M05 pattern.

The NCU-system consists of several layers that can be combined into different configurations. This gives the user a big flexibility and the ability to adapt to a variety of work and climate challenges. All layers have full interoperability and are designed to work together from the ground-up.

Extensive resources have been put into the development of the project.Ranging from state-of-the-art computer simulations, thorough laboratory experiments to large-scale field testing. Only the highest quality materials are chosen, this gives unprecedented performance in areas such as flame resistance, water repellent, breath ability, weight, and abrasion resistance.

Aclima and Woolpower, both having their own specialized wool technology, will be used close to the body and as heat insulation layers.
Siamidis will supply the rest of the combat uniform (jacket and trousers), as well as cold weather add-on, all made with the latest GORE-TEX Professional technology.

The Nordic Combat Uniform System consists of three configurations:
– The European which is divided in an intermediate part covering down to minus 19 Celsius and a cold ad-on covering temperature down to -45 Celsius.
– The desert configuration covering hot/dry.
– The jungle configuration covering hot/wet.
