Alongside other major modernization efforts, the Bundeswehr is also moving forward with the renewal of its special operations vehicle fleet. Toward the end of 2025, the German Bundestag’s Defense Committee approved the procurement of new medium reconnaissance and combat vehicles for special forces (AGF-2) for the Bundeswehr’s elite Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK).

Defenture Special Operations Vehicles

The new vehicles will be supplied by Dutch manufacturer Defenture, which offers its Special Operations Vehicle (SOV) family under the designation Mammoth. These platforms are intended to replace the aging AGF-1 “Serval”, which has been in service since 2003 and saw extensive operational use, including deployments in Afghanistan.

According to current planning, two variants of the new platform will be procured for the KSK: the AGF-2 itself, designed as a reconnaissance and combat vehicle, and an additional tactical support vehicle (UTF) intended for the transport of equipment and ammunition. Funding for the acquisition will be provided through Germany’s special defense fund (Sondervermögen) as well as the regular defense budget, underlining the continued prioritization of special forces mobility and survivability within the Bundeswehr’s broader procurement strategy.
