Their mission: to defend the Alliance in the Baltic region
The multinational NATO Battlegroup Lithuania includes soldiers from seven different nations. Their mission: to defend the Alliance in the Baltic region. To ensure that everything runs smoothly in this German-led battle group when it really counts, around 1,300 soldiers from those seven nations are participating in the combat exercise “Iron Fortress.”

For two weeks, two combat companies from the Battlegroup face off against each other on a training ground in Lithuania. These include mechanized infantry forces from Norway operating the CV90, as well as German Panzergrenadiers from Neustadt am Rübenberge equipped with the Puma infantry fighting vehicle.

The combat companies are supported by Czech CBRN defense units, who use their specialized reconnaissance vehicles to detect and identify hazardous substances of all kinds.

When a “door opener” is needed, the well-camouflaged Panzerhaubitze 2000s from the Artillery Training Battalion 325 in Munster are standing by, ready for action.
