Small, Silent — Lethal: The 160th SOAR’s AH-6 Little Bird
How the Little Bird Empowers America’s Night Stalkers. The AH-6 is a compact, light-attack helicopter derived from the earlier scout-type designs (originally based on the OH-6 / MD-530 series).
Its “Little Bird” configuration was designed specifically for special operations: small size, high maneuverability, and the ability to operate in tight spaces (urban terrain, rooftops, narrow streets) — environments too restrictive for larger helicopters.

Over time, the platform evolved. The variants used by 160th SOAR (often under the umbrella of the “Mission-Enhanced Little Bird”, or MELB, program) feature upgraded avionics, reinforced structures, modern flight controls, and compatibility with special-ops equipment.
